The Oregon Food Bank reports that “federal food assistance programs have stopped, safety net benefits have been cut and OFB will lose 90 truckloads of food. Meanwhile ‘1 in 8’ Oregonians are unsure of where their next meal will come from.” And the high price for groceries doesn’t seem to come down.
In April, the Groceries 4 Grout Food Pantry served 1316 people from 368 households, made 41 Wednesday deliveries, and logged 333 volunteer hours.
It won’t surprise any of our Friday volunteers that there are 12 different languages represented at the food pantry. English, Chinese, Farsi/Dari, Vietnamese, Spanish, Burmese, Cambodian/Khmer, Nepalese, Arabic, Filipino, Hungarian/Romanian and Japanese.
