Lenten Dinners: Pilgrimage and Prayer

We are hosting a dinner and discussion each Thursday during Lent, exploring the theme of Pilgrimage and Prayer.

February 22: Rev. David B. Jewel explores the Celtic Way, discovering how the Celts, aka the Gauls, or the Galations, viewed God and Christ through the natural world, finding “thin places” where the connection to the spiritual world seemed closer. Menu: Baked Potato Bar

February 29: we will be looking at the book Kneeling With Giants: Learning to Pray with History’s Best Teachers including, but not limited to, St. Benedict (The Divine Office), John Calvin (Studious Meditation on the Psalms), Martin Luther (The Lord’s Prayer), St. Teresa of Avila (Recollection of the Presence of God) and the Puritans (Meditation in Writing.) The author, Dr. Gary Neal Hansen, will appear with us from NY by zoom. Menu: Pulled Pork Sandwiches

March 7: Six Sisters Do the Camino. Follow Laura Schaefer’s travels on one of the many pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain. Learn why and how they found their way on the Way of St James. Cincinnati Style Chili

March 14:  We will learn about St Ignatius of Loyola and hear an interview (pre-taped) with Rev Erik Swanson from Westhope Presbyterian Church in Saratoga CA. Menu: Corned Beef

March 21: We will experience a Taizé prayer service . Menu: Lasagna
